The first ever rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) in Malaya was planted at Government Hill, Kuala Kangsar in 1877. It was one of nine seedlings brought over from Brazil by the English botanist H.N. Ridley in 1877. This photo was taken circa 1880. The tree still stands today near the Kuala Kangsar District Office.
