DYAM Raja Ekram ibni Almarhum Sultan Yusuf Izzudin, was born at Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar in 1922. He was the eldest brother of the current Sultan of Perak, DYMM Sultan Azlan Shah. His mother, Raja Perempuan Taayah was Ku Nick’s sister.
He was educated at the Malay School, Bukit Chandan, from 1931 to 1936, after which he went to the Malay College Kuala Kangsar.
In 1938, he was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Posts in Perak until 1941. In 1948, at the age of 26, he was appointed Raja Kechil Muda.
In 1951, he was appointed a member of Penghulus Selection Committee and held the appointment until 1952. In 1953, he was appointed Raja Kechil Tengah and Raja Kechil Sulong on 21 June 1956.
In 1957, he was appointed a member of the Executive Council and the same year he was appointed Dato’ Pengelola Bijaya Di-Raja.
On 1st August 1962, he was appointed as Raja Kecil Besar and also an Ex-Officio Member of Dewan Negara. From 1st February 1963, he was appointed as Raja Di-Hilir.
Tuanku mangkat on 9th June 1978. Tuanku was married to YAM Raja Puan Muda Raja Nur Ema binti Raja Muhammad Zulkifli.
