The Sports Mini Owners Club (SMOC) of Malaysia are for owners and fans of this British marque (called either the Morris or Austin Mini), which is made at Longbridge, Birmingham, England from 1959 to 2000*. The club was formed 16 February 1989, on the 30th anniversary of the first Mini Cooper produced in 1959. Amongst the past presidents of SMOC Malaysia were DYAM Raja Di-Hilir Perak Jaafar ibni Raja Muda Musa (the first club president) and subsequently his younger brother, YM Raja Kobat Sallehuddin ibni Raja Muda Musa.
Raja Kobat had described that he used to traverse the banks of the Perak river in his red 998 cc Austin Mini Cooper.
The SMOC Malaysia is one of the few Mini Cooper clubs in Malaysia.
[*] The new MINI is owned by BMW, and started production after the British Motor Corporation ended its own production in 2000.
