In 1939, DYMM Sultan Abdul Aziz Al-Mutassim Billah Shah ibni Raja Muda Musa was knighted by King George VI. Tuanku was appointed an Honorary Member of the Second Class of The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, as Knight Commander (KCMG). It is a British order of chivalry founded in 1818 used to honour individuals who have rendered important services in relation to Commonwealth or foreign nations. People are appointed to the Order rather than awarded it.
The Star and Badge of the Order feature the cross of St George, the Order’s motto, and a representation of the archangel St Michael holding in his right hand a flaming sword and trampling upon Satan. The Order’s motto is Auspicium melioris ævi (Latin for “Token of a better age”). The Order is the sixth-most senior in the British honours system.
Prior to his appointment as KCMG, Tuanku had already been bestowed the KBE as a Raja Muda in 1937.
