The first ever gathering of descendants of Almarhum Sultan Abdullah was held at Syuen Hotel in Ipoh on Thursday, 1.9.2011, which saw approximately 300 family members attending. They came from far and wide, some of whom came all the way from Sumatera (due to Perak’s intimate familial connection with the Deli Sultanate).
To spread the news about town, the event was publicised on Facebook and even had a spot on Malaysia Hari Ini on TV3. This much-awaited family gathering was organised by a team led by YM Raja Azura Raja Jaafar and her husband, YM Raja Zaharruddin Raja Dato’ Seri Lope Abdul Rashid. The attending family members, spanning five generations, were also treated to a mini exhibition, a slide presentation of the life of and tribulations faced by Almarhum, and light entertainment in the form of musical talent showcased by the younger descendants from the 4th and 5th generations.
The majlis was graced by the Raja Kecil Besar of Perak, YAM Raja Dato’ Seri Iskandar Dzulkarnain ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris, and his wife, YTM Tunku Dato’ Seri DiRaja Soraya binti Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
The event was covered by Peraknews.com and the post covering the event can be read here.
