SembangKuala highly recommends a visit to the PAYUNG NEGARA exhibition held in the recently opened National Education Museum housed in the Suluh Budiman Building at the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim. Visitors to this excellent exhibition can learn about the origins of the Malay Sultanate and various aspects of the royal institution (functions and adat included), including that in Perak, and this includes a video describing the installation of DYMM Sultan Azlan Shah in 1984. There is also a section focussing on other royal institutions in the rest of the world.
This exhibition has been running since the official opening of the museum by UPSI’s chancellor, the Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Bainun, in July of this year and will run until 31 December 2011. The Suluh Budiman building which was originally opened by Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Shah on 29 November 1922 is now a heritage building.
